Jim Thompson Outlet for Silk in Bangkok
The Jim Thompson Outlet on Sukhumvit Soi 93 is open every day from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. They have a range of silk from heavy upholstery fabric, to lighter weight for clothing. The lighweight silk is called 1 ply. It is washable and great for sewing up quilts or clothing. Silks are on floors 1 and 3. They don’t have chiffon or anything light like that. The lightest I saw was a shimmery white silk in a couple of different weaves that would be good for blouses or dressy clothing.

Hi Jill,
I am a quilter living in Thailand and am wondering if you have seen many of the batik fabrics in Bangkok. I didn’t see any in Chiang Mai and I am now living in Krabi and wish to make a quilt using about 10 different batik fabrics..
Thanks kindly

We were always on the lookout for batiks when I was in quilt group. Never could find any real ones. We only found quilt fabric with batik prints at Kimono House (like Robert Kaufman), and then we ended up using sarong fabric sometimes.

Dear Jill,
My name is Tam and I just get to know you through a website (Quilt batting at Sri Song Swad shop in Chinatown, Bangkok) where I found your post. Ideally, I want to find places in Thailand that sell the polyster wadding (mass market) inside the fabric on the first picture that has been attached below; and also the type of fabric in the second picture. However, I have tried to search most of the websites to find out mass markets but couldn’t see any that sell these types of product. Can u please help me to find any markets in Thailand that sell polyster wadding and the fabric on the sencond picture but in mass quantity? It would be great if you can help me
Thank you for your kindness!

Sampeng Lane and Pahurat. Not sure exactly which shops. You’ll have to walk around and look.

Dear Jill
Back in 2016, with the help of your post, I went to china world, visited the store that you raved about, on level 2, which was kind of hard to find but i managed to find it and bought a lot of fabrics
Now, im visiting bangkok again and planned to go to china world on next monday, but i forgot the name of the store. May I know if you remember the name of the store? Was it kimono house? Is the store still there?
Besides belleboo, do you recommend any other shop for cute 100% cotton prints?
I will also be going to Jim Thompson Outlet on Sukhumvit Soi 93 for thick silk as well.
Regards

Yes the name is Kimono House and it moved. It’s nearby in walking distance from China World, and it’s on google maps. It’s a separate shop near Starbucks. The address is: Wang Burapha Phirom, Phra Nakhon, Bangkok 10200. I don’t really have a new or favorite shop. Haven’t been shopping for a while. Will have to get back there again soon. Have a good trip and good luck shopping!

Just an update. I found kimono house opp Starbucks. I found a lot of nice cotton prints at chesun on level 2.
I also had a very hard time tryin to locate sampeng lane and due to time constraints & fatigue, I purchased a lot of fabrics from belleboo and left, without going to #150, #159 and #277. What a pity!
I will go to those shops in my next trip

Hi Jill!! I just stumbled upon your website and since I‘m going to Bangkok, this is very helpful. In Chiang Mai I found some aweseome quilt fabrics, and I think I‘ll have to buy more just before my flight back home. I wish I could upload a picture, so you could see which ones I mean. They are cotton and have these amazing borders and have lots of gold on them. The other ones I really liked were the indonesian batik fabrics. Do you have anything inmind, where I could get those?

Those are sarong fabrics. They are sold at local markets. If you can get to Sampeng Lane in Chinatown, the walking lane shops go by number and there’s a shop number 96 “Vibul Kit” and another shop near that. There are a lot of shops selling sarongs in various markets, maybe you can show the concierge at your hotel desk. If you can bring one along when you shop, that would explain to people what you’re looking for. Good luck. We use those in quilting all the time! Also good for tablecloths, sewing two together along the longer sides. Some shops even sell this fabric on a bolt.

Hi Jill,
I’m sorry if you have answered this question above, as I tried to search through and find my answer but couldn’t. We are making sarongs and love the “sapun” fabric that is in Pahurat. Do you know where we could take the fabric to have the ends sewn and wholesale quantities?
Thanks so much!
Kyla
