Hi Jill, I pan on a day trip for fabric hunting in Bangkok. Would it be ok to go on a saturday? I will only be in Bangkok for a couple of days! Probably will hire a driver for the day so we could visit to most of the places in one go.

There is a market for cotton knits in Suksawat, Bangkok. I don’t know much about it, but it’s the place to go for tee shirt fabric.

      Hi, Jill,
I’m a longarm quilter in St George, UT. One of my customers asked if I would continue to quilt for her if she mailed her quilts. Needless to say, that would be crazy expensive for her.
I googled, thinking there might be quilters in Thailand – and here I am!
Do you know of anyone with a quilting business I could refer my friend/customer to? Anywhere in theFar East would be closer then me! 🙂
      Thank you!
PS: Great site! Wish I had a trip to Thailand coming up. Maybe I could deduct it as a business expense. 😉

There aren’t any machine quilting businesses in Thailand. That’s why we learned to machine quilt our own quilts here, out of necessity. If you’re interested in getting some hand quilting done, you can contact me through these comments. It would involve mailing your quilt to Rayong, Thailand, to Khun Tiew and Our Home quilters. Thanks!

I am looking for some factories that can produce 2000-3000 quilts/day. We have already had designs and all the work that factories have to do is priting our designs into Quilts.
Can you recommend me some factories that have large capacity and can offer us a competitive price?

Hi Jill, thanks for the updated information. I went looking on our last visit to Bangkok, and was amazed at what is available at what prices, and just didn’t have room in my suitcase for any more. I found some wonderful bargains. I will be back later this year in September, and will be checking out some of these wonderful places. Quilting fabrics in Australia are so expensive, and these are a great find.

      Thanks again Wendy

Feathers, Lycra and flannel at Sampeng Lane

Wholesale flannel in pink, blue, green, yellow and white, at this counter at the intersection of Sampeng Lane and Maha Chak Road.

Wholesale flannel in pink, blue, green, yellow and white, at this counter at the intersection of Sampeng Lane and Maha Chak Road.

Today I will answer readers’ questions. See map at end of post for location of shops.

    • I’m looking for colored stretch cord, for jewelry. I’m wondering if they sell it in Sampeng Market?
      • I saw spools of stretch cord in green, yellow, lavendar, blue, pink and black at Loa Kwean for 85 baht per spool. 123-125-127 Rajchawong Road, Sampeng, Bangkok 10100.
      • Wattanaporn Pu Shop at 256 Sampeng Lane has a good selection of stretch cord. One pack is 120 baht and is 100 meters. They are open from 8:30 to 5:30 daily, Sundays 8:30 – 2:30.

    • Wondering if China World shops accept credit cards? Do they do vat refunds? Please advise. Thanks.
      • I asked at one shop and they said they accept credit cards on purchases over 2000 baht. But many shops do not accept credit cards. No VAT refunds.
    • Could you explain where the Lycra shop is and name of shop please. I don’t know the Temple. Thank you.
      • Korea Shop sells Lycra stretch knit fabric at 100 baht per meter plain, and 130 baht per meter for prints. It’s located in the entrance driveway to Chakrawat temple, and is open from 8:00 to 6:00 daily. MOVED NO LONGER HERE

    • I was told it is dead town on Mondays, is that true? Should I avoid Mondays, please?
      • Any day of the week is good to go. Some shops may be closed on Sunday. Shops are closed for Chinese New Years,
        Friday, February 16, 2018.
    • Hello! I love this resource! Can you tell me if you’ve seen the name brand Moda in Sampeng? Also where can I find flannel?
      • Moda fabric can be found mixed in with other brands at Kimono Shop on the corner of Yaowarat and Maha Chai Roads, diagonally across the street from Starbucks. There is a lady on the corner of Sampeng Lane and Chakrawat Road selling flannel. Not in a shop, but just at a counter on the side of the road.
    feathers at Pornsawad

Feathers at Pornsawad #60-62 Sampeng Lane

    • Hey, I stumbled across your blog while searching for a place to buy feathers in Bangkok. Can you recommend any? I make dreamcatchers so I am looking for feathers to decorate them. Bright mix of Turkey coquille feathers.
      • Pornsawad Shop #60-62 Sampeng Lane has feathers at 35 baht each, or for 100 or more the price is 25 baht each. They also sell net, felt, burlap (sale 95 baht per meter), cloth bags, lace, bells, glitter, velcro in different colors, batting, lining fabric, TC (Tetron Cotton), and faux fur fleece (300 baht per meter).
    • Hello I’m reading about places such as Pahurat, Sampeng lane and Chinaworld. Are these places located close to each other or are they essentially the same place?
      • The are located close to each other. You can walk around all these places together and spend a full day shopping there.
    • I want to plan a trip to purchase quilting fabrics. Could you give me addresses. So I can locate a hotel near by.
      • If you want to start with an address right in the middle of Chinatown, try Grand China Hotel, 215 Yaowarat Road, Sampanthawong, Bangkok, 10100 Thailand. I made this custom map below including all the nearby hotels.

Shopping for Notions on Sampeng Lane in Bangkok

There is a bead shop at #53 Sampeng Lane Jaroen Beads. Lots and lots of beads: hair beads, pearl beads, seed beads, wooden beads, painted beads large and small. Our favorite stop for quilt making equipment, Hong Garment Accessories, has the Hot Fix Crystal Wand and Swarovski crystals, teddy bear appliques with ABC letters of the alphabet, tiny pom poms, small buckles, chains, tassels, beads and clasps. They have imported items from Kiyohara. Khun Yui at #71 Sampeng has crochet collars, silk flowers, feathers, lace trim and sequin tape. Hi! I’m so happy to find your fabulous blog with nice quiltings and very useful information! )))
As I’ve got it this place – China Town – is not far from MRT Hua Lamphong, right?

And can you recommend a place to buy a simple sewing machine (and not too expensive too) in Bangkok?

Sorry for my questions.. you may find it silly:) But I’ve just come to Bangkok from Russia, going to live here for sometime… And I’m mad of scrapbooking and love to sew papers and use a lot of fabrics for my layouts. And i’m trying to find places for buing different supplies and tools:)

      Thanks a lot!
