Bon Marche Market – two quilt shops

Bon Marche is a very nice market with a food court, restaurants, and lots of shops with interesting products like clothing, jewelry, purses, and gourmet food. There are two quilt shops here worth visiting for accessories. One is Quilts Corner run by “A”. The shop has fabric from Japan and the U.S., lots of accessories and batting, and they teach hand quilting, machine quilting and patchwork, with beginner, intermediate and advanced classes. With each class you get a kit with all the materials needed.

Narada Crafts also has a classroom and a shop with lots of accessories. Both places have the new FriXion erasable gel Pilot pens in green and black. FriXion erasable gel pens are new and allow you to precisely mark fabric without smudging or fading. To erase the thermo sensitive ink, iron or toss into a dryer. One pen is 85 baht. I also got some curved needles for tying quilts with embroidery thread.

Bon Marche market is open from 10:00 am – 8:00 pm every day, while the quilt shops are closed on Mondays.

While there, take a quilt class! Learn mosaic patchwork with Noriko Nozawa. Noriko has been teaching in Spain, Belgium and recently was here in Bangkok in March. She has been quilting for over 11 years. This class is for anyone who is interested in quilting and can use a sewing machine. The class is 3 hours long and you will finish the project within that time. Cost is 2450 baht. You will make a sewing bag and learn these five techniques:

• how to arrange a mosaic pattern
• sew with variegated thread
• appliqué with invisible thread
• make your own label
• and learn a neat new technique for appliqué
