      Hi Jill,
I hope all is well. I’ve really enjoyed reading some of your posts about Bangkok shopping in the local markets!
I will be coming to Bangkok for a few days starting from tomorrow. I was wondering if you could help me?
I’m looking for these super-cute fabric covers for keys, phones, passports etc.
I found some in the Palladium Mall (outdoor market) but can you tell me where else I can find them?

Thanks for your help in advance!
      Joanne

Purse handles and frames at Wong Wian Yai

This is the place for accessories to make bags and shoes. Most of these shops on Soi Sarapi near Wong Wian Yai are open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and are closed on Sundays. Products include PVC, leather, buckles, beads, chains, cord, feathers, fasteners, sequined fabric, rhinestone fabric, zippers, zipper pulls, shoe soles and heels, awls, needles, heavy thread and industrial sewing machines. There are embellishments made of leather like little flowers and shapes. The prices are wholesale and items can be made to order. The closest BTS station (Bangkok Transit System) is the Wong Wian Yai skytrain station, and the area is in walking distance of the skytrain.
Wattana Pu Leather Center has genuine leather, imitation leather, embossed and printed leather, patent leather, suede, sequined fabric, fur fabric, bag and shoe accessories and decorations, and heels. They sell feather fringe and trim by the yard.
Wattanaporn Panich has rings, buckles, locks, hooks, zips, frames, eyelets, rivets, key rings and buttons.

Dear Jill, so happy to have found your website! Can I please find out if you will need to negotiate (haggle) on price at these stores or they usually already have prices listed? I’m looking for clutch bag shells and frames. World Champ looks amazing. thank you!

I think you just ask what is the wholesale price. If you order more, the price goes down. I don’t think you haggle. It depends on the quantity.

          Hello Jill:
So nice to meet you. Maybe you can help me 🙂
Im Maria, and Im traveling to Bangkok at the end of October.
I have my small business of leather belt bags: a small pouch bag to put around hips, or cross body.

I make the production in a small family factory in Delhi, India.

Im happy with process, but would like to make me an idea of quality and leathers and prices , to produce in Thailand

Maybe i only can buy leathers in Thailand, and continue producing in Delhi, or maybe, all process in thailand
Could you recommend me where to produce leather good in thailand? Where they supply me the leathers, etc,

          It would be great

          Wait for your reply
          my mail is

          Thanks
          Maria

    Wongwian Yai Specialty Shops

Wongwian Yai (meaning ‘Big Circle’ in Thai) is a roundabout in Thonburi, the old capital of Thailand. Wongwian Yai used to be a major business center before Bangkok became the capital. Nearby Charoenrat Road is famous as the center of leather goods shops in Thailand. There are specialty shops with supplies for shoe-making and purse-making. This area is just over the river from Bangkok across the Taksin Bridge (Sathorn Bridge). If you walk out exit 3 from the Wongwian Yai skytrain station and head down Soi Krung Thon Buri 1 also known as Soi Salapi, you’ll see the leather shops.

The shops have awls, wooden yardsticks, wax, die-cut tools, mallets, silver pens for writing on leather, vinyl, canvas, zippers by the roll, purse handles, chains, snaps, buckles and of course leather.

There is a shop called Laser Gallery which will laser-cut material such as leather, acrylic, wood, cloth, and plastic. You can bring acrylic sheets not more than 3 mm thick and they will cut it in shapes to your specifications. Open 8:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Saturday. This might be the only place around where you can buy a fish skin made into leather.

After walking down Soi Salapi, turn right on Charoenrat Road and there are fabric shops selling sequin covered fabric which would make a very nice dressy evening gown or dance apparel, such as Pravitrungroj. Also lots of purse handles including wooden and leather ones. Well worth a trip. There were a few tourists too! Open Monday through Saturday 8:30 am to 7:00 pm.

Hey Jill, I’m Emily and live in Hong Kong. I am starting up a shoe school to teach others how to make their own lasted shoes. I recently visited the leather expo here in HK and found a Thailand supplier who told me about this area. Thanks for the post you did because I could not find anything else about it. Do you have more info on the area or a link where I can find out more? I am seriously considering a trip to Bangkok to check out this area.

Thanks and hope to hear from you. Kind regards, Emily
